Tao Porchon-Lynch Shines Bright in India 2017 – Part 8

June 25 - 27, 2017 - After seven incredible days in Bangalore, 98-year-old yoga master Tao Porchon-Lynch and I flew to Mumbai to spend time with friends, and for Tao to dance and receive a surprise award.  We also did our popular Conversation with a Master talk at a local company. It was very well-received as always. I had been to Mumbai previously for a World Economic Forum event and was delighted to be back (see series I wrote for the Gates Foundation).

June 24, 2017 - Our last day in Bangalore was packed like the others. My dear teacher Tao Porchon-Lynch taught a beautiful yoga class and then Shwaasa Guru surprised both of us with a shower of flowers and honors. He certainly went all out to make it special.

June 23, 2017 - India offers so many surprises around every corner and our host, Shwaasa Guru, certainly kept the treats flowing. After a day of teaching yoga yesterday, 98-year-old Tao Porchon-Lynch and I had a leisurely breakfast. Late morning, we were transported to meet 110-year-old Shivakumara Swami.

June 22, 2017 - After the Yoga Ratna Awards and International Day of Yoga events, 98-year-old yoga master Tao Porchon-Lynch led a series of yoga classes in Bangalore sponsored by SHWAASA. She had a dynamic morning session (Part 4) and then we did some shopping. Tao has a couple hundred saris and and SO many items from India over the years, but she still likes to check out the scarves and buy gifts.

June 21, 2017 - In 2014, the United Nations proclaimed the 21st of June as the International Day of Yoga to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of the practice. In 2016, Tao and I participated in the International Day of Yoga activities at the UN on "Yoga and the Sustainable Development Goals." As a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader and Tao's biographer, I was honored to moderate her conversation. Max Kennedy moderated the conversation with Sadhguru, and then Sadhguru and Tao took the stage together. This year, Tao is a key part of the festivities in Bangalore under the invitation of Shwaasa Guru Sri Vachananand Swamiji.

June 20, 2017 - On our second full day in Bangalore, we met 97-year-old Amma V. Nanammal and her son V. Balakrishnan at the hotel. She is from Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, and is considered the oldest yoga teacher in India. Since both Tao and Nanammal were going to be featured on stage that evening together, Shwaasa Guru wanted them to meet and coordinate their yoga postures.

June 18 - 19, 2017 - At 98 years young, yoga master and historical icon Tao Porchon-Lynch had a momentous trip to India to receive multiple awards, teach yoga and dance. I was delighted to accompany her as I've done previously. This time was extra special with seven days in Bangalore and four in Mumbai. Tao's mother was from Bihar and she spent the first twenty years of her life in Pondicherry--so India is home.
